Profile

Irina Zadorozhnaia is a multimedia artist and filmmaker working across experimental cinema, moving image, and digital media. Her practice centers on unstable relations between the biological and the computational, affect, the origins of images, and the distribution of voice and gesture.

Working with documentary fragments, 3D environments, generative systems, voice, and digital artifacts, she approaches technological processes as active conditions of the work itself. These languages are not used autonomously. The work seeks conditions in which one can pass into another, while each such translation returns to and alters what preceded it.

Editing, error, repetition, and transformation become methods through which an image ceases to coincide with its source, intention, and initial function. The resulting form continues to act even after its origin is no longer sufficient to explain what it has become. Something nevertheless remains outside the distribution between source, system, and interpretation.
